About IRSTipTracker

IRSTipTracker is a free, browser-based tip tracker designed specifically for tipped workers across the United States. With the introduction of the No Tax on Tips deduction under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, tipped employees now need a reliable way to document their tip income every single day to claim the deduction. IRSTipTracker makes this easy.

Unlike generic spreadsheet templates, paper logbooks, or complicated accounting software, IRSTipTracker is purpose-built for one thing: tracking tips. There is no tip tracker app to download from an app store, no account to create with an email and password, and no personal information to hand over to a third party. You navigate to the page in your web browser, enter the cash tips and card tips you received during your shift along with any tips you paid out to other staff, and IRSTipTracker calculates your net tips automatically. The entire process takes about ten seconds per shift.

IRS tip reporting requirements state that tipped workers must maintain a contemporaneous daily record of tips received. This legal requirement means you must log your tips on or near the day you earn them. A daily log compiled at the end of the month does not satisfy the requirement, and the IRS may disallow the deduction if you cannot produce a timely record. IRSTipTracker helps you stay compliant by making daily entry fast enough that you can do it between tables, during a break, or right after your shift ends. Each entry stores the date, cash tips, card tips, tips paid out, and calculated net tips. You can also add optional notes for each shift.

When the month ends, IRSTipTracker lets you export a printable PDF summary to give to your employer. Under IRS rules, tipped employees must report their tips to their employer by the 10th of the following month. The PDF includes your name, employer name, Social Security number, a daily breakdown of all entries for the month, and the monthly totals. It is designed to meet employer reporting requirements in a professional format. You can also export a JSON backup file for each month. Keep these backup files safe — they are your permanent record and can be imported back into IRSTipTracker on any device.

At the end of the year, you can upload all twelve monthly JSON files to generate a complete annual deduction summary for your tax return. The annual report compiles every entry across all months, calculates your total net tips for the year, and estimates your deduction under the No Tax on Tips provision. This report can be shared with your tax preparer or kept for your records. All of this processing happens entirely in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nothing is transmitted over a network, and no third party ever has access to your income data.

IRSTipTracker is suitable for anyone who earns tips as part of their work. This includes servers (a server tip tracker helps here), bartenders, baristas, food delivery drivers, rideshare drivers, hair stylists, nail technicians, tattoo artists, valet attendants, hotel housekeepers, bellhops, concierges, casino dealers, croupiers, parking attendants, golf caddies, and dozens of other occupations across food service, hospitality, personal services, transportation, and entertainment. If you receive tips from customers or clients, IRSTipTracker can help you track them.

The tool is completely free to use with no paid plans, no subscription fees, and no limits on how many entries you can create. Your data is stored in your browser's local storage and stays there until you clear your browser data or delete it manually. If you switch to a different device or browser, export a monthly JSON backup from the old device and import it on the new one. Your data remains under your control at all times with no reliance on external servers or cloud storage providers.

Frequently asked questions

Is IRSTipTracker really free?

Yes, IRSTipTracker is a completely free tip tracker. There is no tip tracker app to download — it runs entirely in your browser. No paid plans, no account registration, and no credit card required. You get instant tip tracker access and can start logging tips immediately.

Where is my data stored?

All your tip entries and profile information are stored only in your browser's local storage. Nothing is ever uploaded to a server or transmitted over the internet.

Do I really need a daily tip log for the No Tax on Tips deduction?

Yes. The IRS requires a contemporaneous daily record of tips received to claim the deduction. A free printable tip tracker or a tip tracker spreadsheet free template can work, but an automated digital log is easier to maintain. A basic tip tracker spreadsheet or a Google Sheets tip tracker template requires manual formulas, while a dedicated tip tracker template that calculates totals for you saves time.

What happened to IRS Form 4070?

The IRS tip reporting Form 4070 and Publication 1244 have been discontinued and removed from the IRS website. The legal requirement to report tips to your employer has not changed — you can now use any written statement that includes your name, Social Security number, employer details, the month, and total tips received.

Can I use IRSTipTracker if I work multiple jobs?

Yes. Log shifts for each job separately. Export separate monthly reports for each employer. Your data stays organized by date and employer.
